The current economic climate dictates that jewelry owners take adequate and immediate precautions to protect the jewelry that they already own and, pay close attention to the following areas of concern.  These precautions would include:

  • Regular inspections of their jewelry through a qualified jewelry business and creation of a record for tracking when inspections are due and maintenance is needed

  • Creating an inventory of their pieces, including descriptions and photographs

  • Understanding the approximate value of their pieces before making any decisions about gifting or selling

  • Having written appraisals executed when necessary

  • Consulting with advisors to help determine the need for insurance, financial or estate planning asistance

  • Seeking reliable information before making any jewelry related decision

  • Being aware of current conditions that would affect their personal jewelry situation

"I've been having Healthcare providers in my home due to a recent illness and was concerned about the security of my fine pieces.  My late husband gave me many fine pieces that I treasure. My jeweler provided me with the KeepSafe Jewelry Portfolio to document my pieces so that I would have the proper protection for them.  Now I can rest assured that if I have a problem, something can be done about it."        June Powell, Florida

Insurance Companies

Jewelry loss is a VERY BIG problem for everyone... especially insurance companies.  Every year there are millions of claims for jewelry that is stolen, lost or just "goes missing".  The NJSA actively promotes and supports the insurance industry and their efforts to mitigate loss as much as possible. To this end, we provide excellent educational materials and products to encourage your clients to take a proactive approach to securing their jewelry through regular inspections, inventorying the jewelry that they have and purchasing insurance on the items of significance that they want to protect.  The NJSA invites you to partner with us to provide these consumer education materials and simple inventorying  products that will tremendously help with the ongoing problem of jewelry loss and the associated cost to you.  We are aggressively promoting consumer education through all social media outlets, targeted advertising and direct outreach to potential Security Partners, who have much to gain from sharing this valuable and actionable information.

We recently suffered a home burglary and much of my wife's jewelry was stolen.  And, to add insult to injury, we didn't have an inventory or pictures of the items that were taken.  It has been very difficult to detail the pieces for the police and insurance, much less prove that we owned them in the first place.  We immediately documented our remaining items with the KeepSafe Jewelry Portfolio system and will add any additional pieces as needed.  Lesson learned!!    Rufus and Teresa Johnson, Florida.       Geico Insurance

Financial and Estate Advisors

The National Jewelry Security Association (NJSA) believes that including jewelry assets in a Financial or Estate plan is vitally important to the comprehensive understanding of total asset value in all situations. Jewelry is often seen as a sentimental or personal item, not as an asset, to be considered as carefully as other asset types. Many people have jewelry that easily totals tens of thousands of dollars, if not more, and must be maintained and protected to insure its continued appreciation in value. There are many times in a person's life when the value of jewelry must be considered, i.e., divorce settlements, estate distributions or the immediate sale or liquidation of such assets to raise funds.  As a Financial or Estate Advisor, you are perfectly positioned to help your clients understand the importance of accounting for this type of asset, so if the time comes that action needs to be taken, they will be prepared to make an educated decision.

It is always suggested to have a current inventory of the quality jewelry that you own.  It is a valuable resource in the case of a loss or to aid in decision making, by yourself or a family member.  The NJSA invites you to partner with us to promote Jewelry Security as part of the individuals overall financial picture.   The KeepSafe Jewelry Portfolio and KeepSafe Jewelry Inventory are simple security products to insure that clients are protected when needed.

As a financial advisor who helps clients organize their estates, I find many times that jewelry isn't seriously considered as a valuable asset until it is lost or stolen.  Proof of ownership is necessary when filing a claim and not having photos, receipts or current appraisals can make what is already a nightmare (losing or damaging jewelry), much worse.  I've found that the KeepSafe Jewelry Portfolio is a perfect way to organize and categorize precious jewelry, just in case it is ever needed.  It's also a great gift!!.

Locksmith, Safe and Security Systems Specialists

The National Jewelry Security Association wholeheartedly endorses the recommended "Triangle of Security" protocols. This would include purchasing an interior safe, protective lock and key entry systems and home alarm perimeter security.  Jewelry is a prime target in home burglaries and some of this heartbreak could be avoided by a comprehensive security plan for your home.  We would invite all of these specialists to join us in our consumer education campaign that includes jewelry owners taking the necessary steps to document their fine jewelry items.  This will insure that if a loss does happen in the home, owners will have immediate information on their valuables to help the police or insurance company  act quickly on their behalf.  Our inventory systems are a simple and effective way of accomplishing this vital step. We would be happy to partner with you to spead this critically important information.

"The "Portfolio" is an organized, attractive, and significant product for keeping lists of precious items together with appraisals and photos.  It is a perfect gift for the person who has everything, as well as, the person who is young and starting to collect a lifetime of memories.  Truly a diary that grows with each special event in one's life, it will serve as an intelligent  and permanent record to catalog heirlooms and purchases.  I enjoy my Portfolio and the security that it gives me.  I've ordered Portfolio's for all of the jewelry lovers that I know for Christmas!"
